Organic Farming Conventions organized every two years by the Organic Farming Association of India (OFAI) are a unique and popular programme in the organic farming movement of the country. Each of these conventions is attended by thousands of farmers, activists, urban consumers, scientists, policy makers and social entrepreneurs to discuss, share experiences and strengthen their collective work for sustainable agriculture and safe food.
Chandigarh – capital of Punjab and Haryana, the main Green Revolution states – is an obvious choice for organizing the 5th OFAI Biennial Convention. OFAI has joined hands with institutions like National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM) and Alliance for Sustainable & Holistic Agriculture (ASHA) for this convention.
The 5th National Organic Farming Convention is intended to create a platform for the sharing of scientific and technical knowledge and experiences amongst farmers, agri-scientists, policy makers, government agencies and financial institutions, marketing specialists, social entrepreneurs and consumers. It is expected that the convention will act as a significant platform for providing technical and marketing support to organic farmers for strengthening the overall organic farming movement in India. It is hoped that both farmers and consumers of this region will carve out their own way forward for organic food and farming systems through this convention, with governments coming forward to support such a shift.
